Durability 3 – T&N Mattresses are designed to perform for six to seven years, which is on par with similar models. The mattresses have been sold for less than five years, and longevity past the five-year mark has not been evaluated, but owners report minimal sagging and deterioration.
Motion Isolation 4 – Although T&N Mattresses contain no memory foam, customer reports indicate that the sleep surface absorbs and reduces motion transfer to a significant extent.
Off-gassing 3 – Some off-gassing is to be expected with the T&N Mattress, but these odors will dissipate rather quickly.
Conforming 4 – The T&N Mattress provides above-average pain and pressure relief compared to owners of other all-polyfoam mattress models.
Sex 2 – T&N Mattresses are somewhat bouncy, but they may not be responsive enough for some couples.
Temperature Neutrality 3 – A small number of T&N Mattress owners claim their mattress sleeps excessively hot, but most say temperature neutrality is not a significant issue.
Edge Support 2 – Edge support is questionable with the T&N Mattress and sinkage may occur along the perimeter of the bed.
Noise 5 – T&N Mattresses are virtually silent when bearing weight.

Bed Buddy Report | Findings |

Tuft & Needle offers two mattresses.  The T&N Mattress is a 10 inch, two layer polyfoam mattress and the Mint Mattress is a 12 inch, three layer polyfoam mattress.

My review of the Tuft & Needle mattresses found both of the mattresses to be quite comfortable for their respective price points.  While the sleeper doesn’t sink into the bed as much as you would with memory foam, it is still able to hug the body while giving the necessary support to keep the spine aligned.  The Mint Mattress does give you the extra two inches and more robust edge support and the added graphite tends to sleep a bit cooler.  There is a reason these mattresses have such a positive rating around the web, they are both quality at a fair price.  This review is for the Tuft & Needle original mattress.

What Type of Sleeper Is Best Suited for a Tuft & Needle Mattress?

Based on my customer feedback, the Tuft & Needle Mattresses has received the following grades among sleepers of different weights and preferred sleep positions. Please note that these ratings are subjective, and that everyone has varying experiences on different mattresses. Sleeper comfort and spinal support are the most important factors when it comes to selecting a mattress.

As you can see, the Tuft & Needle is a great choice for lighter people who sleep on their side, and performs well for those who sleep on their back. I am weary of recommending the T&N mattress to heavier sleepers, since likely will lack the necessary support, but the Mint Mattress should be a nice alternative.

For more information on sleeping positions please see my guides for side, back, stomach and combination sleepers.

My testing process found the Tuft & Needle should also be great for you if…

  • You’re looking for a quality mattress at one of the lowest price points in the space
  • Want to purchase from an established brand as Tuft & Needle has merged with Serta/Simmons
  • You aren’t a fan of traditional innerspring mattresses
  • You enjoy the feel of the comfort layer conforming around your body

We’re your Bed Buddy!!

Our mission is a simple one: We want to help you get incredible sleep, like a good sleep buddy should. And how you might ask? By not only conducting extensive research into the subject itself, but by personally testing out the thousands of mattresses on the market that claim to improve the quality of your slumber.

We really sleep on our mattress research by testing each for at least a hundred sleeps! We do not just compare features like review blogs, nor collate others’ online reviews, nor do a brief test of one to seven nights. No, our research includes a one hundred consecutive sleep test, so we can say, ‘Yup, this is what we found, because we really slept on it!’

We have no affiliation with the companies we feature, and any advertisements that appear on this website not at our discretion. They are there to keep the slumber party going. The Bed Buddy team takes incredible pride in the work we do. We hope that the reviews, news, and sleep information can help you on your personal journey for better sleep. And the job is fun – it’s not all naps! … sometimes… We love creating content that you enjoy, whether it’s on our site, or our newsletter, which you should sign up for.
